Where do i cast for carp and catfish when fishing in medium to heavy current in the river?
i go fishing in the kansas river at a certain place where there a rock dam...and the water is up and theres a heavy current. i want to know where the fish would be located and where to cast and what to use for bait

- the catfish can be any and everywhere, usually the stinkiest bait you can use is what is recommended and the channel catfish will be in the channel (deeper areas) facing upstream and mud suckers will work best for them. remember the bigger the bait the bigger the fish that eats it but I would look for places where the high water has moved back into calm and protected inlets for the carp and just use dough like biscuit dough. The bigger is better doesn't work on carp though...
- NOT in the current. find an eddy near a jetty, piling or sandbar. also on the bottom in the first or second hole below the dam - but this is best done from a boat. the log jams in the outside turns of the river are very good spots. MAN ! l sure wish l could be fishing alongside of you there. next to bass, that is so much my favorite. our southern california "rivers" hardly qualify as creeks.
