  1. As for how to set up your rod I would go to youtube as there will be heaps of videos to watch METHODS AND RIGS: The best method for fishing off the shore and off a boat for mackerel, i find is lure fishing with lures of feathers. The best floats to use are the big, fat, chubby ones. The best weights to use are between 4oz and 8oz. Use medium sized swivels. Use medium sized booms. Have a medium sized discoruger ready. Use medium - large hooks with 2 - 3 barbs. The best line to use is probably a 20lb - 30lb main line, and a 10lb - 20lb trace. BAITS: The best baits for mackerel are crabs and sand-eel or sand-lance whilst using the float. They will also feed on smaller fish. LURES: The best lure for mackerel are feathers. You can also use spinners and wobblers. hope this helps
